A Plan

I have come out of my hibernation.  Now there are a bunch of submissions to catch up on.  I have gotten a lot of suggestions on how to handle the HBCE, and have thought long about what should be done to make it as little burden as possible.

Here are my thoughts.  We need people from the various areas of Medical Blogging who are part of the HBCE community to review applications from blogs like theirs.  These groups can be of the following type:

  • Physician Blogs – I can take this one.
  • Medical Student Blogs
  • Nursing Blogs
  • Healthcare Administration Blogs
  • Patient Blogs
  • EMT’s
  • PT/OT/Speech
  • Other Medical Blogs

If we can have a few volunteers from each of these to form a team.  When a blog application comes through and it does not seem it is clearly a rejection, then we can pass it on to each team.

I get roughly 2-3 total applicants per week (a very big number, really) – so there are a good number to catch up on.

Thoughts?  Volunteers?

I see no one is jumping up to volunteer (unless privately through e-mail–I hope). I will assist you in the physician blog category if you need me.

I could assist in the patient blog category. However, I would need guidance as to the minimum qualities each blog requires.

Is there any way to post the list of applicants (for the feeds) or to e-mail the list? I would think that different perspectives may be useful. On the other hand, there would certainly be applicants that would be overlooked.

What exactly would the volunteers have to do?

I’m with Y.S. on this: would be happy to help, but would like to have a better idea of what’s involved. Assuming it’s not overwhelming (probably a safe assumption), I’d be happy to take on “Other Medical Blogs” (since I think that’s where IB is).

I am a patient (my son is). I started a blog long ago (February 2008) to journal the conception and birth of my twin boys. My son Hawke is 28 days old and Jaxon passed and rests in heaven. I keep it posted with some terminology, but for the most part I keep in lamens terms family and friends updated on the NICU experience. I have read two neonate text books and I am far from an expert.

    Hello,
I am writing an article for Diabetes Health magazine about diabetic blogs. I was hoping to interview someone from your organization about the effect medical blogs have on the communities they cater to. If you’re not the right person to interview, could you tell me someone who would be? I would appreciate a response as soon as you can, as the article is due July 7th. Thank you for your help!

I agree. The best way to help is to spend some time and volunteer on something. True that funding would also help, but volunteering to do something spending some time will make it much more special.

Exactly what I was thinking, after watching how many people suffered after the earthquake in Haiti, I felt so helpless, and its important that groups like yours should form, in a much faster way in order to reach out to those who need help..
